X (Twitter) Outreach Guide

Everything you need to know about running campaigns on X.

Last updated: Nov 26, 2025

X vs Instagram Outreach

While the core principles are the same, X has some key differences:

X Advantages:

  • More text-focused audience
  • Public conversations build credibility
  • Easier to find decision-makers
  • Less saturated for cold outreach
  • X Challenges:

  • Stricter DM limits
  • Character limits in DMs
  • Faster-moving conversations
  • X DM Limits

X has specific limitations to be aware of:

Daily DM Limits: Approximately 500 DMs per day (varies by account age)

New Account Limits: Much lower limits for first 30 days

Rate Limiting: Sending too fast will trigger temporary restrictions

Character Limit: 10,000 characters per DM (but shorter is better)

Recommendation: Stay under 50-100 DMs per day for safety

    Finding Leads on X

X offers unique ways to find prospects:

Follower Scraping: Target followers of relevant accounts

List Members: Scrape public lists in your niche

Engagement Scraping: Find people engaging with relevant tweets

Hashtag Monitoring: People using industry hashtags

Reply Threads: People asking questions in your domain

    X Messaging Best Practices

Optimize your X DMs for the platform:

    - Keep it short: 100-200 characters ideal

    - No links in first message: X filters link spam

    - Reference their tweets: Shows you actually follow them

    - Match the tone: X is more casual than LinkedIn

    - Ask simple questions: Easy to reply to on mobile

    X Account Warmup

Warm up X accounts differently than Instagram:

    Days 1-7:

    - Tweet 2-3 times per day

    - Reply to 10-20 tweets

    - Follow relevant accounts

    - No DMs yet

    Days 8-14:

    - Start DM'ing people who follow you back

    - 5-10 DMs per day max

    - Continue regular tweeting and engagement

    X Templates That Work

    Template 1: The Tweet Reference

"Just saw your thread on [topic] - super interesting. Quick Q: are you currently [pain point]? Working on something that might help."

    Template 2: Mutual Interest

"Noticed we both follow @[relevant account]. Looks like you're into [topic] - mind if I share something I've been working on in this space?"

    Template 3: Direct Value

"Hey! Put together a [resource] for [their type of business]. Thought you might find it useful. Want me to send it over?"

    Public vs Private Engagement

Use both public and private touchpoints:

    Public First (Optional):

    1. Like and reply to their tweets

    2. Quote tweet with valuable commentary

    3. This warms them up before the DM

    Then DM:

    4. Reference your public interaction

    5. Message feels less cold

This approach can increase response rates by 20-30%.
